Vera My new sweater is Medium. I would normally have a 16 or 18 (for width). I have measured the length and it is from neck to the bottom 23 inches or 58cms. I have also measured the sleeve. It is from wrist to shoulder seam. 19 inches or 48 cms.

Trying it on I would say it is top end of 18.

Afternoon all.

Lovely bright sunny day here although a chilly breeze but its good to see the sunshine.

I did venture out to get rid of some glass jars for recycling but did not stay out too long.

Whizzed the hoover around the house today and now have been working on a friends family tree but have hit a brick wall!

Linda, you must be getting excited now as only a few days to go. Kind neighbours you have offering a last supper.

My bugbear with online shopping is that all the trousers I seem to order are always far too long even when it says regular length. I am only 29 inch inside leg but often the sizes are short 27, reg 29 or long at 31 but i nearly always have to turn them up

I ordered 4 pairs of comfy trousers in a soft material just for round about. They are not leggings but taper down to the ankle. When they arrived in a size 14 i was so shocked as they were huge and about 8 inches too long!! I sent them back and got a refund but less the postage.

As someone whose only choice is to shop online, I get so irritated and disappointed when things arrive and they don't fit. I'm getting away for a hospital appointment in Mar and hopefully will manage to the shopping centre for a couple of hours. Shall look in M & S and the likes of Primark etc and hopefully come home with a new wardrobe as my existing one needs an urgent update!!

Well better carry on with my research and see what i can find.

Sounds as though we’ll all need to take tape measures with us when we go clothes shopping.

I always do!

I happened to catch the eye of another woman with her tape measure in a shop in Glasgow a few months ago, and we had a companionable laugh.

Thank you for welcoming me!

I have to buy online, haven't bought any clothes in a store since before 2020. I have a couple of online US stores (Lands End and Eddie Bauer) where I know my fittings with their clothes, though I do have major problems buying trousers even from them. I wear long skirts all the time, but I like to have a pair of trousers "in case". I have a couple of pairs in one of my drawers, but they both date back to before I lost over 30 lbs and went down at least 2 sizes!

I look at M&S online occasionally, we don't have any stores over here now after they withdrew at least 20-25 years ago. I've seen a couple of things that I liked, but they seemed too expensive to buy on spec from this long distance.

To think all my undies, bras, sweaters and bikinis (!!) once came from there, way back when I was young!

I do have problem with lengths of sleeves and trousers................ I'm about 5' 7½" now, having lost some height. I even have to look very carefully at the length of maxi and midi skirts. I have noticed that M&S gives a good indication of that on their online photos.

We've had a good 2 or 3 days, clear blue skies and sun, but chilly!!! It has got down to 0C overnight, so there has been frost on roofs, and about 7/8C during the day. Monday is a Stat Holiday, and unfortunately rain is in the forecast.

We were booked for a train trip leaving on Monday from Vancouver to Winnipeg and return. It was 3 days and 2 nights there, 1 night in Winnipeg, then return. I booked the trip when VIA (train company) had a Black Friday sale last October, thinking it would be fun to see lots of snow from inside a moving train. But it has become obvious that this is another weird winter, and there is little snow around, plus we began to lose enthusiasm for the trip, so I cancelled last week.

Florence61 Report 17 Feb 2024 15:55

Afternoon all.

What a horrid day here! gales, rain, bitterly cold and spoilt my plans to go and weed the flower pots ready for planting at some stage when its warmer.

So another day indoors although yesterday, it remained sunny all afternoon and I had 2 lots of washing out.

The internet here has been extremely annoying as keeps cutting off so having to resend messages etc grrr.

Went through my wardrobe today and managed to declutter quite a bit, so now there is a bin bag for the charity shop. A few unworn sale items I bought on impulse only to decide some time later that I didn't really like the tops and they didn't suit me!

Daughter cleaned the glass oven door today which has to be removed in order to do this. Always worry, incase it gets dropped and breaks but all is well and its all back together nice and clean now so a spring cleaning job off the list.

Sylvia, how sad you cancelled your trip but if as you say, the snow wont be there to admire, I can see why you changed your minds.

Your comment about buying your undies and Bikinis made me chuckle. When I was in my 20's, I always wore a bikini but nowadays its a swimsuit but still looking very trendy. I haven't actually been swimming in awhile and my leg doesn't bend so the last time I went, it was hard dragging one leg whilst doing the breast stroke but i did enjoy it none the less and it was good exercise.

Hope everyone else looking in is well and keeping warm :-D

Well its not the sunny day it promised...yet. Its quite chilly and breezy so too cold to weed the pots.

But I have been planting seeds in pots and trays which are now all along my lounge window as the sun is there for a large chunk of the day. A mixture of lavender, coleus, poppies and lots more i cant remember the names of. Nephew gave me loads of packets for xmas with little pots to start them off. Fingers crossed they all grow and then come summer, my garden will be blooming lovely.

Not sure what to put in my wooden planters this year either side of the front door? I had blue lobelia last year and it did look pretty but fancied a change this year just not sure yet.

Well lunchtime already as the day seems to be whizzing by. always does when you are busy.

My internet is driving me up the wall so going to phone my provider tomorrow and see where the problem is. Its so slow and then when you do get onto a site it says something like, an interruption to your connection was detected???

If I log off and back on, restart. this sometimes works but not always.

I think its my area as there are always loads of Openreach around here. We are somewhat behind up here as don't have 5G or superfast broadband either so maybe that's the problem...who knows? But as I pay for a service, I expect to get one!

Right better go before I lose this message.

Take care all

You may need a new router Florence, they only last for a few years, then start to fail. The ones the internet companies supply aren’t very good in any case.
Have you switched the actual router off and left it off for five or ten minutes?

We have your sun, it is a lovely day here. I am shattered as I have been cleaning all day. I have cleaned the insides of all the fitted wardrobes , then I moved onto the kitchen and have cleaned inside all of the cupboards. The vast majority of the kitchen stuff is packed, there are just a few things left which we are still using. I will give the oven a clean tomorrow, it isn’t bad as it was done thoroughly not long ago. Once I have cooked the chicken this afternoon, I won’t be using it again.

The whole house is more or less packed now, just a few things in the bathrooms and the IT systems. We don’t use the router Talk Talk supplied as it is pretty rubbish, we have a mesh system. That is a master router and two smaller ones in different parts of the house which makes sure that we have a strong signal everywhere. The house is an L shape and before we had the mesh system, we didn’t get a very good signal in the rooms in the leg of the L.
We still have the large TV, sound bar and Talk Talk box to dismantle as well. I am going to take photos of the wires, so I can get them back in the right places.

The sun shining is showing me that the inside of the windows need cleaning, so I will go and do that now.

Florence61 Report 18 Feb 2024 15:52

Well the sun has come out and we have been busy outside. All of the pots have now been weeded and look so much better.
Daughter stayed out longer as although sun is out, the breeze is a cold one and i got cold after 1/2 hour but the fresh air was lovely and I have washing out too.

Linda, we got a new router box when we moved less than 3 years ago and yes, have tried turning on & off but no difference. Friends in the district have similar problems so dont think its just me.

We get a good signal for wifi throughout the house so no problems there.

You seem to be all organised for your move, you must be quite excited now.

Is your new house a bungalow or do you have upstairs?

I took a sweet & sour out of the freezer for tea as made some last week but there was lots left so tea all sorted for tonight with naan and basmati rice.

Well in need of a cuppa now after all the hard work but at least less to do before we plant out in may.

Hope the sun is shining for everyone else today

Provincial Statutory Holiday today (Monday) ............. it's called Family Day here in BC. We've had for about 10 years after people petitioned for a Stat holiday between Christmas and Easter! Almost all provinces, though not all, have the same day off but it's called by different names. Nova Scotia has long had the day, but they call it Heritage Day, to celebrate the long history of that province.

However, it wasn't a Federal Stat Holiday ....... we got mail this afternoon!

Of course, the weather was worse today than over the weekend!

LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Feb 2024 12:23

Of course it was cold on a bank holiday Sylvia, that is the law :-D

The packing is just about done with one day still to go. I have been practicing counting to ten rather a lot, it is either that or strangling OH. I have all the boxes organised and labelled, some of them still have a bit of room in them because I have left space for things which we are still using. I keep finding OH stuffing things in random boxes, with no concern as to the other contents. :-|
I told him to put his medication on top of the drawers in the bedroom next to mine as I am taking important things in the car. He had to go and retrieve his as he had put them in a box of clothes
:-S

SuffolkVera Report 20 Feb 2024 12:41

Like you, Linda, I did a lot of heavy sighing and counting to ten during 4 or 5 previous moves so when we made our last move 10 years ago I put my foot down and said we were going to get the removal company to pack for us. It was wonderful. All I had to do was tell them what I wanted left out to come in the car and they did the rest. Two men came and wrapped and packed every single item. Of course there was a cost but it was worth every penny. The only downside was I had to do a bit of sorting when I unpacked the kitchen stuff as they had very carefully wrapped every single bottle and jar, even if there was hardly anything left in it.

Good luck with the move on the day and I hope the weather is kind to you.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Feb 2024 12:59

Florence61 Report 20 Feb 2024 13:01

Afternoon from the gloomy overcast wild west!

No sun today at all, showery and its awful with heavy grey clouds....rather depressing looking out!

Men have no concept of moving. Throwing random things in random boxes is always the norm but.....when you arrive at the new property they are the first ones to complain they can't find something lol

Many years ago when the children were quite small, we managed away for 4 days. I had laid out the children's clothes on their beds and also my own clothes as I would always work out what they and I would wear each day so not taking too much. I would fold carefully and pack neatly so nothing was creased up when we arrived at the destination.

OH back then, took his large holdall into which he literally threw 4 pairs of undies, 4 pairs of socks and the t-shirts etc were thrown in the bag. Hence when we arrived, his clothes were all screwed up and I was despatched to the b & b owner to ask for an iron :-P :-P grrrr

Decided to do the ironing today, was only 1/2 basket but I need to crack on with research etc this afternoon and don't want a huge basketful on Sunday..

Sylvia, never fails here either or when I lived down south. At Easter down in Kent, the Fair always arrived in time for Easter. It was allowed to open at 3pm on Good Friday. Mum took us on Easter Monday and It was guaranteed on the 2 mile walk, the heavens would open...always!

Or later when I had a car in the 80's, there was a huge Boot Fair in this enormous field with over 1000 stalls. We would get up early and yes without fail the bank holiday rain came down. Any BBQs planned for a bank holiday were a washout too.

So you have my sympathy for your BH today.

Havent had any lunch yet so off to make a couple of crumpets soon and then horse on with family tree.

Hope everyone looking in is well and ok.

Joan, hope you are getting on ok <3

Well, that is enough for today. OH has been taping most of the boxes shut. There are just a few left open to put things in tomorrow. Of course he doesn’t listen. I checked the study and told him that he could tape them all up apart from one small box which I was still using. Of course when I went to get some sellotape, he had fastened it up, so he had to open it again :-(

Tomorrow there is just the remaining kitchen stuff, but not much of it. The tv’s to box up. The printer and smart speakers. Hmm, more to do than I thought, but it will be fine.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 21 Feb 2024 16:37

All done :-D
There are just a few IT bits to unplug in the morning and to give the bathroom a quick clean before the removal van arrives at 8.30 am.
I am really pleased that my wonderful neighbour has invited us round for dinner this evening, so I wont have to bother with making a meal.

The internet at the new house is supposed to be being connected on Friday, so fingers crossed that happens and I can get back on line.

See you at the other side :-D

Will you have a landline or are you all digitised?

Dismal day here and glad I was indoors. Just been busy doing research but i have had enough now as my brain is scrambled. Waiting on daughter coming home with food lol

Heating went on an hour ago and all nice and cosy now but can still here the wind howling outside. Think Spring has gone back into hibernation lol
