looking for Alfed oldfield married to Hannah parkinson and i think they lived in culcheth leigh, had a son called william wildman who died in barrow in furness about 1978.any info would be good.

EDIT:
He enlisted 10/12/1915 in the 1st Btn York and Lancs Regiment. Eventually discharged 26/03/1920 due to defective vision. Not much detail regarding where he served, a few minor misdemeanors (not having gas respirator, quitting billet, rusty equipment, missing roll call).

One odd thing, in April 1920 he wrote to the regiment asking for a copy of his medical records as he's been accused of having a venereal disease and he wanted them to prove he hadn't. The regiment were unable to comply because his records had been forwarded on.

William was quite correct when he mentioned Culcheth and Leigh in the same breath. They are within 3 miles of each other and Culcheth was once a sub-district of Leigh. Until 1974, Culcheth was in Lancashire but was moved to Cheshire by local government reorganisation. I am local to the area. ;-)

this is confusing my father was born in culcheth,leigh as i have his birth cert 1906 he died 1978 his father came from leigh in lancs he had brothers and sisters ethel,betsey,brothers alf,robert maybe more i do not know.

William - what is confusing?

If it's dates on Alfred's service record then I wouldn't worry too much about that - the records are terribly old and faded and look like parts of them have been inked over at some time.

I suppose it depends what you are looking for William.
