I can remember when we visited there in the 60s we met up with an American family and the guy was stationed in Naples when Vesuvius erupted in 1944 and he said that they skied on the ash :-0 :-D |

When we went up Vesuvius in the 60s they told us that we couldn't walk on the far side of the crater cos it would burn the rubber off our shoes.....we must have been mad :-D |
