Well, I don’t know what has happened to the warm sunny day the weatherman was promising us yesterday. It is foggy and drizzling instead. I got the bus into Harrogate just after lunch, it take thirty minutes. I went to pick up my new glasses from Specsavers and got straight back on the next bus home. For once, they have managed to make the lenses fit the frames so they aren’t sticking out without having to have a second go at them. So I have put the new pair on now I am home. The lenses are slightly different, so it will take me a little time to get used to them. I nearly tripped on the stairs as I went up. I can definitely read better with the new pair, so it will be worth it once I get used to them. OH spent the morning in the garage painting the rest of the fencing materials green. He is now out in the garden constructing part of it. I told him to wait until tomorrow when hopefully it won’t be drizzling, but he wants to get on with it, silly man.

Afternoon all
Very windy day here and of course was recycling day lol. It was a case of looking out for the bin lorry then heading straight out so I got them back in their stations asap otherwise goodness knows where they would have flown away to. I took my neighbours bins in to for him as he's now back to full time work.
These 4 houses have very nice people staying in them and in different ways we help each other out which is lovely.
No sooner had the bin lorry gone, Tesco came. Medium order and only 2 crates today. So that didnt take too long to deal with until......trying to put some things away and decided to empty the bottom cupboard!! So you know when you really wish you hadnt started a job, well this was one of them.
Honestly, the amount of packets of biscuits etc that were right at the back was humongous. i could have had a tea party for 50 and there would have been plenty to go round :-D :-D :-D
Anyway, a good sort out and everything back in its place and a few things shifted elsewhere. So now Im feeling my back with bending over as cant actually bend down and shall be sitting for sometime as done more than enough for one day!
ArgyllGran, many take part in the Mod here but since the removal of the music teachers, there are few to teach Gaelic songs etc so numbers of enrants of younger ones has dwindled. My son was once in the folk group/band for his primary school and came 3rd but that was it.
I think with the National Mod, its mainly adult choirs but we do have some choirs from here that do well.
When my children were doing family history, they were in a minority as i gave then info going back 8 generations and some only knew their grandparents and no further back. So their teachers were very impressed!
Its looking very stormy here and i think it will rain hard soon.
So off to make a hot drink now.

Family tree knowledge does come in very handy.
I remember a few years ago another grand-daughter was doing a school project, and I was able to give her a family tree.
Another time, one of my nieces needed to know family medical history, and I could tell her the causes of death of various ancestors - though of course not what other illnesses they may have had during their lifetimes.

You have had a very challenging time recently Sylvia, so no wonder you are tired. If you think it might be a medical reason, then maybe you should see your doctor and get checked over.
I am glad that you had a good time with your friend Florence, a holiday no matter how short is always a good thing.
Yesterday my niece asked me if I could send her some info about my fathers war records because her daughter was studying WW2 in school this year and had to do a project on someone who had been in the war, such as a grandparent. She is only in year 6 at school ( top juniors). , so it is actually her great grandfather. I spent some time compiling a suitably aimed word document and attaching lots of photos. My father was the type who kept everything, so I have a massive amount of information. He was actually captured early in the war when his unit was trying to defend the beaches from the Germans during the Dunkirk evacuations. He spent the rest of the war moving between POW camps. I tried to make what I sent relevant to an eleven year old, so I hope it helps.

It's a damp day today for Canadian Thanksgiving, but we have had several lovely Fall days ......... sunny, temps around 15-17C during the day and down to 7 or 8 overnight. The trees are colouring quite lovely which is not too usual here.
I'm sorry that I don't always post ............. it is usually the evening when I open GR, and I am so tired that all I can do is read what is posted and keep up with what is happening. Anything I wrote wouldn't make any sense because I am so tired by then. Not too sure why I am still so tired, although there is still lots going on, especially trying to sell the house.
Look after yourselves
Take care

After a chilly start, we have lovely warm sunshine and blue sky here today. Beautiful glowing autumn colours. Sorry, Florence!
A former neighbour who moved to the south of England several years ago is in the area on holiday this week, and wishes she'd never left, especially seeing today's lovely weather.
On Saturday evening my daughter and I were at a National Mod concert in Oban. My grand-daughter was playing the fiddle in the school's traditional music group. Not that we could see much of her - from where we were sitting, she was mostly obscured by someone's music stand!
The concert was a good mix of items, instrumental and vocal, some from school pupils but mostly from adults, several of whom were well-known in the Gaelic and traditional music world.
Being in town in the evening, I treated myself to fish and chips - delicious!

Heloooo all Sorry i have been away for a "sleepover" with a pal I haven't seen in ages. Her hubby was away on bus for the weekend so she invited me over.
We had a great time with a take away and just chilling & chatting. Was just fab to get out and away from house for a bit. :-D :-D Today I have been wrapping some xmas presents but oh my what a palaver!!
I had bought some gifts awhile ago and blow me if i could find them. I spent so long looking for them, it just wasted an hour grrrr Eventually i emptied the wardrobe floor out and there hidden at the back was a bag and in there were the missing gifts, Yay thank goodness for that.
Linda, bless Esme, she obviously loves it so much at that theme park. She is very lucky to have you able to take her.
Glad the jags didnt give you to much bother afterwards. Im not having any more at all after the 3 one I had, I was so ill and couldnt face going through that again.
I made a lovely chicken stir fry for tea with noodles and it was delicious have to say. No recipe, just threw loads of stuff together...best way!

Every one has gone AWOL :-) I haven’t been up to much, yesterday I cleaned the leather sofas and gave them a feed. I do it every three months and it really does make a difference to them. It was fine this morning, so I did a bit if gardening. It is now raining hard, so I have washed the kitchen, bathroom and en-suite floors and cleaned all of the wooden floors downstairs and hoovered all of the carpets. That is more than enough for one day I think. The weather is supposed to be better tomorrow, no rain, just cold. I am going to take Esme to Lightwater Valley, to give her mum a chance to take Eve shopping. She needs to buy a nice dress for an event next week. If Esme goes, poor Eve ends up with nothing and Esme comes back with bags of stuff.

I hope that you don’t have any ill effects from your jabs Sylvia. Neither of us were ill after our injections, OH is often ill after the flu one. We both just had a sore arm on the flu side.

We're having some nice weather here, temperatures around 14-16C during the day, sunny with cloudy periods or cloudy with sunny periods! It is a bit nippy when out of the sun, and we have had some rain, but could do with much more!
I had my Covid and Flu shots today ............. a nurse came to the Residence, set up shop in one of the Activity Rooms, and then we had to go there when the time came. Covid in the left arm, flu in the right!! OH will presumably be getting his shots later, as they wait a little while longer in the unit he's in.
We're having a Provincial Election here, voting date is the 19th October, but a mobile voting unit is coming tomorrow so we can all cast early votes. Of course we haven't any "bumpf" here, so I had to go online this afternoon to discover who the candidates are in our election area. Not much information on them, so we'll just have to take a guess as to which party we might want to vote for!
I'll give OH the list this evening, then I'll go down when it's time tomorrow, and bring him up to the Voting Place, so he can cast his vote ............... he is capable of doing that!
Take care everyone.

OH doesn’t notice dust, so we decided to do admin instead One of our annual savings accounts was maturing and reverting to low interest, so we opened a new one and did a trial movement of some of the money. That went easily, so we will move the rest if the money later Then the car insurance is due for renewal, so we went on a comparison site and ended up opening a new policy which was with the AA. It saved about £45 , not as much as we usually save, but better than nothing. The trouble started when we tried to log into the AA on line to view the documents. We have a Nationwide bank account and that gives us breakdown cover which happens to be with the AA., so when we tried to log in with either of our email addresses, it only showed the breakdown cover. So we ended up ringing them :-( They insisted that we had to have another email address to create a new AA account in order to see the documents. How stupid is that :-|. In the end I used an old Hotmail address which I never use, it worked and we could get in. I felt like cancelling the new policy and starting again.

Afternoon all Well its about 45 mph here so gale force and heavy showers but think the wind will drop by Saturday, hopefully.
I got 3 parcels today with things i had ordered fo xmas & the general household as well. Lol it was like xmas in my kitchen with the table full of goodies etc :-D :-D
Easy bit done, next the wrapping and then the worse bit the boxing up and parcelling
When sending things in a box, i used to wrap it in thick brown paper but now, i use a thick black bin bag.. Its lighter and far easier to wrap the box in and its waterproof unlike brown paper.
Im sure you can find something for hubby to do Linda? Dusting, polishing, ironing?Amazing how women just find something to do and men always seem to ask the women, what can i do?
I expect he's happiest when he is outside doing practical things like the fence he's building as most men probably are.
Well better make a sandwich of something for lunch and then try & be productive this afternoon in some way!

I hope everyone is fine today. I had to go to a routine dental hygienists appointment this morning. It was damp here , but not raining. I have a half hour drive up the motorway and the rain was absolutely torrential. It was really scary driving through it. I was glad to get there. It was just ordinary rain on the way back which was bad enough. I am glad to be home and will be staying put for the rest of the day.
OH has started building a fence down one side of the back garden where the hedge was. It was a solid block of ivy and once we pulled the ivy out there were very few trees left. He has got three of the four metal posts in with the wooden cross beams between them. He was keen to get the last post in today, then he could put the boards on, but rain has stopped play, so he is wandering about inside looking for things to do.

Afternoon everyone looking in. Well the weather is going downhill fast as its now blowing a gale and raining hard. It was calm when i got up but suddenly the wind is roaring outside. thank goodness i dont have to go out in it!
Been trying to finish off my xmas presents and I found a brilliant book for my dad but from my daughter to him. Its a book all about locomotives in the south east with lots of pictures which i know he will enjoy looking at. He's at an age(86) where he has most things but during the coming winter, I know he wont be out much so having some interesting books to look at will pass the time for him.
I also found an organiser box for cards with dividers. Daughter has mentioned this awhile ago that she needs a box to keep cards in different sections like birthday, blank etc and this one is just what she needs so another ticked off.
Considering i started quite early, which I'm glad I did, i still haven't quite got there!
The next job will be sorting into families and then the grand wrapping session which we usually do on a Sunday with lots of nibbles & juice plus music, then it doesnt seem so much as a chore.
Hope everyone else looking in today is well and has better weather than we do!

I had a look to see when the 2 dose jabs started - it was September 2023 and apparently it is replacing the single dose jab for everyone. They may use what they have left first I suppose.

I’ve heard of this but didn’t pay any attention as I had mine a few years ago. Does seem stupid not to point out when the two dose is being used.
Are they all the two dose version now? Added: just checked the NHS website which says if you have severely affected immune system you get the x2 version otherwise it is the other one which is once. But probably down to what is in the fridge :-S
