Afternoon everyone, hope you all are well.

I have been rather busy indoors and out. First job was to get of the caterpillar that was eating my carrots! i got my trusty trowel and flung him over the fence among a feast of weeds and other delicious vegetation that should keep him going. I then dug up the leafless carrots and they have hardly grown grrr.

So emptied that pot and threw in the organic bin.

The other carrots seemed very dry so we gave them and all the plants a jolly good soaking. The pond across the road is low again, the water level has dropped quite a bit which isnt good. All the plants were quite dry in fact.

Stripped my bed, threw the washing machine on and dried the previous load. Some on the line and its lightly raining but leaving it out.

Been busy last few days as started working on a another friends family tree and this is also going to be a big one lol They really bred like rabbits in them days!

Paper work is also building up and have to phone estate agents in a bit as not happy with no feedback and no updates on the marketing plan!

Apart from all that, i have had backache for 2 days and has kept me awake. Seems to be easing today but very sore and made me quite irritable so trying to keep busy to take me mind of. Cant take painkillers so have to grin and bear sadly.

Hope everyone else is ok.

Hello all , bit late posting but you will read tomorrow. lol

We have had some lovely days this week and have done lots in the garden . OH built a planter box and I have been sorting out plants to put in it . All done now and I am pleased with it. Due to my back problems I needed a planter that was higher than usual as I can't bend over very well and my knee injury means I can't kneel either. Bit of an old crock really. Hahaha. Anyway I have planted it up and put my Angel lamp on there along with a couple of other little animal ornaments . I have lots of garden ornaments and I keep seeing others I like but put my sensible hat on and just look.

The doc changed the dosage on my BP meds and I had to do 7 days testing and give it in to be checked and glad to say all is ok.

Having my hair cut tomorrow , I don't like it too long so will feel better when it is done.

Well off to get sorted for bed.

Take care all
Ginnie

Good morning all from a very sunny village.

JustGinnie, I'm always up late and sometimes posting. Glad all is well with you. You planter box sounds fab. Yes we can all get carried away when at the garden centre with all the nice things...eh Joan? lol

Well I have some washing to do and it will dry quickly so no tumble today.

Tesco coming at 5-6pm right in middle of teatime grr but always thankful we got a slot.

So once chores are done this morning, we are off to sit in the garden this afternoon and catch some Vit D. Its going to be the same tomorrow so making the most of it as the forecast for the next 7 days isn't very good....so last 2 days of summer.

Hope everyone has some sun today :-D

I am shattered as I took the girls to a theme park called Lightwater Valley for the day. I used to go there every year when I was working with a coach load of school kids. They had the longest wooden roller coaster in the country, or world? called the Ultimate Sadly a few years ago they had a fatal accident on one of the rides, so they have reinvented themselves as a theme park for under elevens and all the big rides have gone. Esme had a great time, Eve was very good with her taking her on the small rides. They have a live stage show twice a day, well if you can call miming to a sound track live. It was just up Esme’s street, we had to sit through it twice. I just want to sit with my feet up now

Linda, those girls are so lucky to have you take them to all those lovely places.
Glad they had a lovely time and hope you slept well last night.

How is SIL's father doing now?

I was going to transfer some plants to a larger pot today and although its a sunny day it is extremely windy so have decided to leave it for now. Bad weather is sweeping across the southwest and up to Wales later and then early tomorrow the heavy rain will be up here. Garden will get another good watering.

So may make some gluten free scones for daughter later and I may get the breadmaker out and make a loaf as didn't order any bread with my Tesco order that came yesterday grrr.

Honestly I do write lists, just didn't check in the bread bin!

I have had to shut my lounge window now as the wind is blowing my curtain all over the place so it is pretty windy and getting worse.

Recently when my alyssum plants died, cant help thinking that maybe "Colin the caterpillar" had a feast in them? But the marigolds I rescued have now recovered in their own pot and I have about 20 flowers about to open so all wasn't lost.

Well, better get the chores done, sweep the floors etc and clean the bathroom then a little work on friends family tree. Baking after lunch me thinks.

Hope everyone is well and the storm wont be too bad where you are.

sounds like the girls had a lovely time Linda and I bet Eve secretly enjoyed the slower rides. When we went to Disney world each time OH would want to go on 'It's a small world'. Luckily each time we had little ones with us. So we didn't look too silly.

We had heavy rain this morning and I was a bit concerned as I had to walk to the hairdresser for 12.30. there and back is about a mile for me at the moment with detours because of road works. I was lucky iy stopped raining about 11.15 and has been dry since.

Amokavid Report 18 Aug 2023 13:49

Afternoon to all.
I agree Florence, Lindas grandchildren are very lucky to have such doting grandparents, in particular their granny, Linda does sooo much for the whole family.

It's a dull day here today & cooler than of late, it was windy first thing nut has now drippoed.
I did venture outside but didn't do much, I needed to empty my garden sack of the various prunings & weeds that I had been dropping into it over recent weeks, & pulled up a few stary weeds along the way.

The other day I moved one of our Birdbaths moving it from the front garden round to the side gared, I can see if from the side window in the living room & I amazed at how many birds are using it.

It's a pedastal one with a large top & I only ever saw Jackdaws & Pigeons use it to drink from when in the front garden, but since I moved it I have had to fill it up everyday due to the numbers of smaller birds using it, every time I look out the window there is always at least 1 bird bathing in it & other sitting round the edge drinking from it, as fast as 1 leaves another flies in, it's like they are lining up waiting to get into it.

Our eldest son is coming to see us tomorrow from the Morayshire area, I am hoping he will manage to bring our new bath panel with him, he has beeen making a wooden one for me, with a routered design in it.

My hubby had a nasty fall in the bathroom some weeks ago now & he managed to put a large hole into the previous plastic panel, it will be nice to get the new one in place & get rid of the damaged one.

A home made loaf sounds lovely Florence, enjoy.
I hope all is good with everyone.

Joan.

It’s a small world is my favourite Disney ride as well Ann, they all laugh at me, but Inlove it. I miss Disney, we went every two years, but with the pandemic we haven’t been. We have teamed it up with the two yearly Costello Conference, but this summer it was in Denver, so not convenient for either of the Disneys. In any case with the potential house move for them, it wasn’t a good time. In two years it is back in Florida, so hopefully we can all go there.

I did sleep really well last night, normally I am awake a long time before the radio switches on at 7 am, but this morning it woke me up, then I went back to sleep.

This morning, I did the usual Friday housework, then we had some financial admin to do. We both have an E ISA’s maturing, so needed to invest the money in a new one. We were just staying with the same company, but the instructions were as clear as mud. I worked it out eventually and set the new ones up. I don’t know why they have to make things so difficult.

I then spent a long time playing Lego with Esme, building schools of course and taking the children there on a Lego train. At lunchtime Eve saw it and she has built a beautiful Lego princess castle. She is reliving her childhood as it was all hers in the first place.

I hope you get your bath panel Joan, the plastic ones are amazingly thin and are easy to crack. OH made a wooden board for ours and tiled it with the same tiles as the bathroom. It is only held in by two screws, so he can get it out easily if he needs to

A windy welcome from the wild west lol

Bright & sunny but oh my its blowing a hooley here and not looking any better before next Tuesday.

There was some rain but no thunder etc I think ut was the NE of Scotland and southwest/Wales that bore the brunt. Some train services are disrupted in the NE because of flooding.

Joan hope you are ok up your way?

However it is very warm at 20 degrees, reminds me of the great storm down south in 1987!!

Just housework today and relax later on. Ironing all up straight. Daughter gave the hoover an MOT as the rollers were full of hair!

A basket of shredding to be done as always.

Light meals today as not feeling so hungry after smoked haddock with new pots, peas & salad last night. Was really delicious.

Joan , hope you get the bath panel all sorted and enjoy the time with your son :-D

Happy Saturday everyone :-)

Good afternoon girls.
The day started out with heavy rain, everywhere got a thorough soaking so I won't have to water my new plants, today at least, the water bowie has been re fillled & the birdbaths so that's good.

We now have some lovely sunshine but the wind has got up & it's bringing down a lot of leaves, won't be long before the never ending chore of leaf sweeping will be upon me, lol.

Our sone & his lady are busy sorting out some garage / steading rubbish that can be burnt, our son has lit a wee fire in an old metal drum that we use to burn branches & the like, it's not going to cause any problems, it's well confined & only small.

The bath panel is not finished yet, still needs the routered design doing, will get it in place next time, he has brought over the new window panel for the Potting shed, he has made it himself & it looks great, just waiting for the glass to put in it then it can be installed.

Another item he has made for me are some wooden planters, 4 in all, square shaped, they look fabulous, now I just need to get the plants to put in them, I feel another trip to the garden centre is on the cards, LOL.

The garden centre must put the welcome mat out when they see you coming Joan.

It has been a nice day here, windy, but no rain and quite warm. The girls and their parents have been out for the afternoon , shopping for school shoes amongst other things. They have had dinner out and are on their way back now. Instead of taking it easy, OH came to the supermarket with me and we did another very big shop. We did treat ourselves to some nice steak for dinner
I live right next to a cemetery, it is only about fifty yards to the gate. I do about four laps of fast walking to close the daily exercise ring on my watch. I know quite a few of the people in the recent graves, so I am trying not to join them by doing exercise every day :-D

Linda, that last comment of yours did make me chuckle :-D

Well another wet & windy day. Daughter got wet waiting for a bus but she had her waterproof jacket with a hood but its lashing down.

Had a load of washing to dry so the tumble is earning its keep today for a change.

Usual chores and then in the afternoon carry on with my fam tree for a friend.

Hope to hear from the estate agents today to hear how the viewing went on Saturday hopefully with some hood news!

Hope everyone else is well and ok.

Covid cases here are on the rise with some wards in the hospital closed and visiting restrictions imposed, not sounding too good.

It had been quite warm here, but breezy. I have done a huge amount of playing with Esme today, various games of school and plenty of time in the garden. She makes me get on the trampoline with her and her “ babies”.
I thought that I would catch a sit down this afternoon while Esme went for a rest in her bed, but no, Eve came out as Esme went in, so we played boules, then catch. By the time, she went in, Esme was back out again :-(

Esme insisted that we had fruit salad for dinner again. She cuts all the strawberries up after I hull them. She also chopped the kiwis and melon. We ended up with a huge bowl full. They do chopping fruit at school, making smoothies, so she is used to it. She often takes a banana into the kitchen, helps herself to a bowl and knife and makes breakfast for her dolls. She pretends to feed the chopped banana to her dolls.

On Saturday morning her mum was having a sleep in while Esme was playing downstairs with us. She wanted her mum to wake up, but I said she had to sleep, but when she woke up, we could make her breakfast. After a while Esme wandered off and I could hear her in the kitchen, so assumed she was chopping banana. Eventually I went to see what she was doing and discovered that she had made breakfast for her mum. She had taken a tray from the cupboard, put kitchen roll on it. Then she got a small bowl, filled it with cereal and put the cereal away. She had managed to reach a mug from the high cupboard and had filled it with milk from the large bottle in the fridge. She did that without spilling a drop, which was amazing as she doesn’t have very good motor skills Normally the milk would be all over the kitchen worktop. She was just getting a spoon out when I came to see what she was doing. She was so proud of herself because she had done everything herself. I carried it upstairs for her and her mum was so pleased when she realised that Esme had done it all.

Florence61 Report 21 Aug 2023 21:32

Wow Linda, how wonderful, bless Esme. Proud nanna/grandma moment :-D
Isn't it wonderful when a child that has needs achieves something we all take for granted. Im sure mum was so happy with her too.

Well it hasn't stopped raining here all day grr so haven't stepped foot outside not even for a minute. Have noticed now the nights are beginning to draw in. Its not dark here yet but the light has faded. I guess without a sunny day, it makes a difference to the evening light.

I decided to start knitting a scarf tonight using 2 balls of wool. One is cerise pink, the other more of a deep lilac. They look good together, It will either be for my neice or my daughter for xmas, havent decided yet.

No Eastenders tonight grrr and not much else on so have switched to ITV Drama and Endeavor is on.

Goodness me Linda, what stamina & patience you must have, how lovely of Esme to do all that for her mum.
I see our youngest grandson aged 4 yrs at least once a week & just the constant talking & asking questions wears me out, lol.

A very warm day here yesterday & the same today even without the sun shining.
I was out yesterday clipping the Rugosa hedging, it's really long but it just needed a tidy up trim, unfortunately it's become much deeper & I can't reach along the back edge.
Most years there are cows in the field along side the hedge & they keep that side of it clipped & reasonably tidy but there were none this year ! I'm hoping our daughter will manage to reach over & trim that bit for me.

Our 11yr old grandaughter came over on Sunday & put a 2nd coat of paint on the back of the potting shed, I did the rest but I can't get round the back of the shed like she can, lol.

I have just been scraping some new Potatoes, you know the ones, smallish & mucky skins but easily scraped off, LOL.
Firstly I shall boil them, then when they are cold I will slice them & then give them a gentle fry, (not like chips) just to heat them through we shall have bacon & egg with them, sooo yummy done like that.

Hope everyone is having a nice day & the weather if nice.

Joan.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 22 Aug 2023 13:29

I like potatoes fried like that Joan. The hedges do become really thick. It made a huge difference to ours when we had them cut a few weeks ago. The one next to the path by the side of the garage was cut back to bare twigs, but it has some new leaves which is odd for this time of year.
This morning I drove Eve to her school to pick up some new uniform. She didn’t need much this year. Just a skirt and some tracksuit bottoms, both with the school logo on of course. The skirt was forty pounds, crazy prices.

I have just been playing in the garden as it is sunny, but Esme had a meltdown because I didn’t know the words of the Skyline Gang song :-( She has gone for a chill out in her bed, but will be back soon. Tomorrow bI am taking her back to Lightwater Valley, but going on my own. That will be a hard day.

Good morning all...just lol

Well we have sun again as I think it has been on holiday for the last week. We had rain and gales and I was getting so fed up being stuck indoors!

Had quite a stressy time last week or so with dad being put on insulin for his diabtes and him not really understanding it all so has been tel me lots to ask questions etc. He starts injecting today so am expecting a phone call soon and will see how it went!

Daughter is being taking away with a group for a few days with a local charity she volunteers with. Everything paid for, meals, trips, hotel etc. From mon-Thirsday.

Im glad she can go as it will do her good and boost her morale but checking her bag etc several times is giving me a sore head!! We have to be up on Monday am at 4.30am. She is being picked up and then over to ferry. The joys of going away!

I'm hoping a friend will take me out for lunch next week and I get to the shops for my sanity!!
Linda, hope the trip to Blackwater wasn't too tiring and you had an enjoyable time with Esme.

Joan, you have been busy as usual in your garden. You will have to open it to the public and charge an entrance fee :-D

Hope everyone else is well and ok

Esme had a great day yesterday. I was absolutely shattered by the time I got home. The little train from one side of the site to the other had come off rails in the morning,so wasn’t working. That meant I had to push her in her wheelchair, that was hard work.
I slept like a log last night, I normally wake a couple of times to use the facilities, but I didn’t wake up at all last night.

I was going to take them swimming today, but Esme is tired as well and doesn’t want to go out, so we are just playing in the garden. The grass is really wet, so there must have been a lot of rain overnight

LindainHerriotCountry Report 24 Aug 2023 21:34

I hope your dad is coping with his injections Florence. My brother and sister in law both have type two diabetes and have injection, but they have been doing it for years.

The troops are going away tomorrow straight after work and not coming back until Monday. They are stopping in a travel lodge in Manchester on Friday night, then going to Rhyl of all places for two nights. They are going to see Grandpa on Saturday morning as he has finally moved out of hospital into a care home. In his odd lucid moments he is not pleased at not being home. His daughter goes to see him and occasionally he knows who she is, but usually he calls her Peggy, the name of his long dead sister and he wants her to take him to his parents house.

We considered just staying home as usual, but decided to go away for a couple of nights as well. It has been a nightmare trying to find somewhere. Obviously being August bank holiday doesn’t help, but places we have stayed at before have become stupidly expansive. The nice country house hotels all seem to have weddings. We have ended up before with a disco blaring until the early hours and restaurant under staffed because of a wedding, so have avoided those. Every time we thought we had found something a quick read on trip advisor put us off. Finally we have found a nice hotel in the Peak District,I phoned to check if they have a wedding, but they don’t so we have signed up.
