A George Augustus Mankiewicz died in the September quarter of 1909 in Amersham, Bucks.......same year of death as 'Uncle' so was he the 'Uncle' who wrote the letter?? If so, then he obviously adopted the child who then lived with him.

Annx

Annx Report 2 Sep 2010 21:55

IF this is the same man, he died 13/8/1909 at Coleshill House, Coleshill, Amersham, Bucks. At the time of his death he had 2 addresses in London, 20, Park St, Grosvenor Sq Middx and 62 Broad St. His brother Franz was also a stockbroker.

Oh sorry Jane I thought 'Uncle' had died 1909. I suppose it could still be him if Fitz knows when he died. He certainly had the means to leave such a generous amount to Edith.

Yes we love a whiff of a mystery don't we!! Off to bed to now.....up early to take OH's car for service. Night Night xx

I know you've all gone to bed-----
I have no way to find out all that info you have uncovered--
Ann if ' thats 'UNCLE brother- Franz-- he -could have been
Edith's father like i'd said---That would make him her real uncle??

What a terrible shock for Catie, We are all thinking of you and the family.

It's getting that you can't sneeze on here without us all knowing about it. I bet Fitz will be over the moon about all this information. Make sure he's sitting down Jane, when you tell him.

Shirl, This marmalade is made by Hartle#s, the jam people. You mix a tim of the marmalade with 3/4 pint water 4lbs of sugar, bring to the boil then simmer for 15/20 minutes. Test it on a saucer like you do with Jam. If all Ok let it cool and put into jars. Had some this morning. GREAT.

Frank

Frank Report 3 Sep 2010 15:04

Oh what a job I've had this morning., one of my bushes between my neighbours and my garden, died last year. I cut it right back. Drilled holes in the trunk and put root poison in.I decided this morning to dig it out. After an hour, all the root ball was uncovered, but the begger would'nt move. So out came a couple of tow ropes, got Ros to back the car up the pavement.,tied off the rope and she pulled in every direction. Front Tyres spinning, then sudenly it went, spread dirt all over neighbours lawn. I have cleaned it all up and reseeded the area. While I had the hole I planted a dozen Daffs, and a few wallflowers. Now got to get rid of stump.

Hows Fitz Jane, still shocked by the news. Perhaps now he will want to go back further with his tree. From the address that MEL gave Park St. Grosvenor Square, They must have been so well to do.
Reading a very interesting book at the moment "MY EAST END" by GILDA O'NEILL. The history of the East end borrowed from a friend. If she dosen't want it back I can send it on to anyone interested.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Sep 2010 15:34

Shirl the tin is prepared oranges so you open the tin and then add what Frank said and you get 6 jars of marmalade for the price of about 2 jars bought in the shop!!!!

I use them myself and they do make a good tasty marmyjam, as my dad would say, bless him.

It is the only marmyjam I like too.

Frank have you tried the lemon one?
