I see Marilyn, the 'somehow' makes it all clear!! It is amazing you have been able to go that far back.....I'm still struggling with the 1700s on my tree.

Did your BIL's friends not stay to become monks either, Jane (nearly put H***n again. lol)

Speaking of monks, we have a home made monk's habit in the loft!!! I helped make it for OH for a fancy dress thing. It's made of scratchy sacking....he wouldn't let me make matching briefs from the remnant!! lol With his hairdo he was Friar Tuck and I was one of the merry men in green tights....yuk!!

No Ann I think only one of his friends went into the church. My BIL says the best thing about being in the Monastery was looking after the Bees lol.He is not religious at all.I think it put him off .

Jane

Jane Report 15 May 2009 19:10

I will ask my BIL about his time there and see what he has to say.

Jane

Jane Report 15 May 2009 20:24

AB your last comment is just what my BIL told me.But the Monks would play away with whoever was available whether it be a Nun or a Parishioner !!!!!!!!!!

Jane

Jane Report 15 May 2009 20:35

Going back to names in trees, I have Winston Churchill in my tree, as I was a Churchill. - Not the Winston Churchill though, lol. Must be a link somewhere but cannot find it.

On another branch, which I have yet to link into, can trace back to the Duke of Normandy - but on the wrong side of the sheets, as it was the concubine or mistress of said Duke!

Have found that one of my rellies, from my GGG grandfather has a very successful business, since GGG grandfather had a small shop.

Also found that different branches have butchers in, and they are not linked to the other branches, just coincidence, so that was interesting to see.

Lastly, I had a great aunt and uncle who were mayor and mayoress of Wells. Even stranger, when I went on a cruise many years ago, I met up with a couple and they said where they came from and I mentioned about my family from there and this person knew my uncle very well! Weird! lol

Well it's my sisters birthday tomorrow, so I have lots to do, making a trifle, and a Victoria sponge ready to put together tomorrow with fresh cream and strawberries in the middle - yummy - better not make it up today - it would not last - and thats OH! lol I might just do some fairy cakes too, OH can have some of those with his cuppa this afternoon. Prepare all the veggies and stuffing, so I am all up together and can "relax" lol a bit tomorrow.

Will be up my sisters all evening, watching the Eurovision, we so love watching it every year and having a right laugh, usually at what Terry Wogan comes out with, because he usually says what we are all thinking or saying at home. Although he is not doing it this year is he? It's Graham Norton, well we will have to see if he can match Tel!

Have a good day everybody ~~~~~~~~~~~ sorry I have missed you all.

Tina xxx

EDIT: ~~~~~waves at Marilyn~~~~ It certainly is blowy up here in Bristol too. Have a lovely evening - dont drink too much! LOL xx

Morning ladies,

Hope you're all keeping okay.

Don't know whether it's the change or the couple of nights at work I've done...but had weird dreams again last night...suspect it's the change somehow!

Got busy day today, catching up with my life mostly!! Be back this evening I expect.

My membership runs out on GR on the 22nd May, last time they reminded me, but as yet no reminder, wonder if I should just send my cheque for £9.95 like last time......don't want to give them my bank details. Perhaps they'll remind me in a day or two.

Pam.xx ☺

Morning Ladies.
I dreamt I was cooking a huge joint of beef and it was looking really good, but when I came to carve it ,it was frozen and my roast potatoes were in the bedside cabinet and they were burnt.I was cooking it for those two gay chaps on TV Justin and someone(can't think of his name) They drive me mad as they are so flipping daft so I have no idea why I was entertaining them lol

I was watching Ancient Civilization at 3.30 this morning I was totally wide awake. Then I read my book.!!!!!!!I did spend the night in spare room as Ididn't want OH to wake me at 6 when he got up for work!!!!!!!!!!I was awake at 6 too and heard him get up.I will probably feel pooped later.

Marilyn do you mean The Mussel at Down Thomas? They used to have a Mina Bird in there years ago.It was a right noisy thing.

Off to weed while the sun is out.BBL

Your cake sounds delicious Tina. I've decided to do a frothy evap milk lime jelly this afternoon.....haven't done one for yonks and OH will love it!! How nice to have my kitchen back.......however, I did find a long piece of bracket in polythene in the corner of the sliding corner cupboard this morning......and wondered if it should be fixed somewhere!!

Did a bit of cleaning at dads today. and now I am suffering for it' back's acheing think I'll have a soak before dinner , Got a couple of Scotland vouchers at my family History meeting last Thursday. get them for £4 each instead of paying £6 each on the webb , so I might have a go and see if I can find any new rellies. really struggling now as I am looking for people who were married for 1920 onwards, and if you find an index you think might be one of yours. sometimes there's no image , I save them up and look them up when I go to Edinburgh.
also will have to look at my Hot matches I haven't got round to them yet.

Fiona

Fiona Report 16 May 2009 20:42

My girls went nearly every where in the car. mind you they did walk to school as it was only ten minutes along the road, they loved going on the train. and were realy excited the first time they went on a plane oldest girl being 12 and the youngest being 6 ,
OH grandmother had died the year before and had left money in her will to her 5 grandsons and we used our money to take the girls to Disney Land, Florida, wanted to wait till no 2 daughter was old enough to really enjoy Disney land, also OH job being in the mechant navy he wasn't bothered about holidays abroad,
