How sad, Marilyn. He must have been a very clever man, 2 difficult subjects. I think chinese writing is fascinating, always looks so complex. I had a phase of collecting all sorts of chinese things years ago......still have a 'dragon' rug somewhere and have kept a handpainted little cabinet with birds and flowers on it.

What a clever FIL Marilyn.Life is so cruel sometimes and when Alzheimers affects very talented people it somehow seems worse.I know it's not as Mum had it .It is just awful for everyone.
I did French and Latin at school and I enjoyed Latin more than French. But I do wish I had stuck with French as we often go to France on holiday and it would be nice to be able to converse with the locals lol.

Just remembered,

My father in law was an expert in Esperanto and translated a whole book .

He also spoke Chinese and wrote it in the most beautiful handwriting , I have still got some of his Chinese writings for keepsake.
He was a brilliant man....and guess what he died of ......
Alzheimer's and suffered so much , Just so sad to see this brilliant man going through this disease was tragic .

Anyway he's at peace now.......sorry to bring down the tempo down a bit.
back to my family tree !!!

Morning All,

Well I slept like a log last night for a change. We lay in bed watching Embarrassing Bodies (not our own) and I kept half nodding off, then OH would lean over to see if I was asleep and I would wake up thinking the mad axeman had arrived with him peering at me in the half light!! Wonder I slept at all really!!! lol.

I can only speak schoolgirl french that I can remember and a bit from phrase books. Because I thought I would need to use it a lot , I have always remembered Je suis desolee (should be an accent but non on my keyboard)......'.I am sorry!! '

Morning ladies
Struggled with French at school which was taught by a scottish Teacher her name was Miss Lemon. but I loved her she was a real peach to me LOL!!
OH has learned to speak Italian so at least one of us can communicate to SIL parents, and OH spends a lot of time over in Germany through work so he can also hold his own in that lanuage too
Me I'm really slow but can pick up a few words here and there.

Morning Pam,

Sleep well.

Good luck with your mammogram. Had one done before I was 50 - did not hurt my left boob, but felt a bit "tight" on my right - everything was all okay which was good cos I was having pains in the right boob for months hence the early mammogram.

Oh Marilyn what a horrible little boy - I can understand why you have gone off anything French!

I have always wanted to speak another language I hate it that English is the language everybody learns. Makes us lazy really not to learn another language.

Funnily enough, I have always liked French things and have always wanted to learn French. It was not until I started family tree research and found my ancestors may have originally come from France - weird or what!

Have a good day folks. Must hurry and go to work!

Tina xx

Morning girls, going to bed soon as had a busy shift...have got my mammogram today at 2.45pm...not worried if it hurts, but it's only natural to worry and hope that all is okay.

Speak later ladies...I'm knackered!!!!!!

Pam.xx ☺

GRMarilyn

GRMarilyn Report 13 May 2009 22:35

Oh my,
I never did learn a language,
Although my parents had a french boy as an exchange with my brother when we were small .
And he ruined our household, will never forget it.
He ate all the strawberries that my mother had in the larder and my sister and I got the blame . he would not own up.
We were smacked and sent to bed......So I went off the liking anything about
France...!!
Off to bed now so I'll say goodnight for now.

Marilyn xx

Je comprehend un peu le Francais!

No, not really lol

I have a French language course upstairs in the back bedroom collecting dust - in cassette tape form - goes to show how long i have had it. I am my own worst enemy, a perfectionist and therefore if I cannot do anything to perfection give up!

As to my right knee, it goes out of line and therefore painful. I need a new knee but am too young! Last time GP said if I did not rest leg he would be forced to have leg put in plaster of paris, therefore making me rest!!! I was a good girl and rested it! lol

I had logged off just now but remembered my bus pass runs out tomorrow and therefore have put up a thread about it. PMSL

I have my own bedroom, OH and I dont share bedroom anymore - sheer bliss!
